Appeal for information following assault by cyclist (Filton)

Police are appealing for information and witnesses following an assault in Filton Avenue, Filton, Bristol.

At around 7pm on Friday July 9 a van driver pulled his vehicle over to speak to a cyclist. The cyclist then became verbally aggressive and caused damaged to the driver’s van.

The victim again tried to approach the cyclist (pictured) for his details and was assaulted.

Police would now like to talk to this man as he may be able to help with enquiries. Anyone who may be able to identify him is asked to call police on 0845 456 7000.

Appeal for information following race hate incident (Patchway)

Police are appealing for information and witnesses following a racially aggravated incident in the Patchway area.

On two separate occasions, one on Thursday July 8 and another on Monday July 12, graffiti of a racist nature was sprayed onto a garage door in Cavendish Road. Police are treating this as racially aggravated criminal damage

Detective Sergeant Mark Goss from Staple Hill said: “Behaviour of this kind will not be tolerated in our community and we will be relentless in bringing those responsible for these crimes to justice.

“I would urge anyone who has any information about these incidents to contact Staple Hill Police.”

Engage Youth Dance Festival comes to Filton

Young dancers from across the district will be showing off their moves in a variety of performances at this year’s Engage Youth Dance Festival on Saturday 17th July.

School dance groups, local dance schools and other organisations from South Gloucestershire will be involved in the event, which is organised by Dance South Gloucestershire in partnership with South Gloucestershire Council and will be held at Filton College.

Heather Goddard, the council’s executive member for communities said: “Dance is a great way to encourage young people to get active. It’s a fun and social form of exercise which is accessible to everyone. The Engage Youth Dance Festival gives those involved an exciting opportunity to inspire others and raise the profile of dance within the local area.”

Dance South Gloucestershire is a scheme which endeavours to develop and raise the profile of dance within South Gloucestershire, encouraging young people to get active in an enjoyable and social environment.

Young people share their views with housing society

Young people have been airing their views on life in South Gloucestershire and the services provided by Merlin Housing Society.

Twenty-five young people aged 16 to 25 attended a recent event specifically designed to allow them to have their say. Organised by Merlin and 1625 Independent People the event followed a similar one the housing society ran with its black and minority ethnic residents earlier in the year.

Community Investment Manager Verona Vidal said she was delighted with the response to the event. “It was excellent and everyone had a lot to say,” she said.
