Olveston CofE Primary School rated “oustanding” by Ofsted

Olveston CofE Primary School has been rated “outstanding” by Ofsted inspectors, who visited the school last month.

The team of four inspectors observed a total of 13 lessons at the 204-pupil school, which is located in Elberton Road.

The inspectors summarised their findings as follows:

“Olveston CofE Primary is an outstanding school. It has made rapid improvement since the previous inspection, particularly in the Early Years Foundation Stage, provision for information and communication technology, the quality of teaching and learning and the rigour of school self-evaluation.”

“This has culminated in a significant rise in pupils’ progress. The headteacher provides expert leadership and has created a strong team of staff and members of the governing body.”

The return rate of the parent/carer questionnaire is said to have been well above average. The vast majority of respondents hold positive views of the school’s work. Inspectors say there were a very few negative comments, chiefly concerning bullying, the security of the site and the amount of physical education.
