Traffic lights switched on to ease congestion and improve safety

A scheme to relieve congestion and improve road safety at the Marsham Way roundabout on the Avon Ring Road (near the Longwell Green Asda) is now fully operational.

New traffic lights which control three arms of this busy junction have been switched on and are helping to ease congestion at peak times, along with extra lanes.

Councillor Brian Allinson, South Gloucestershire Council’s executive member for planning, transportation and the strategic environment, said: “We are committed to working hard to keep traffic moving smoothly at this ring road junction, which has seen an unprecedented amount of new development in recent years.”

“We have received positive comments from local residents who are benefiting from reduced queuing at the nearby Deanery Road roundabout at Warmley because of the lights and extra lanes installed there and we are sure that commuters will benefit just as much from similar improvements at Marsham Way. The safety of all road users is very important to us and improvements to the Deanery Road roundabout have seen accidents reduce by 30 per cent – we hope to see this positive trend reflected at Marsham Way.”

Close monitoring of the lights and the movement of traffic on the roundabout will be undertaken to ensure that the sequencing of the lights is as efficient as possible.
