Posted on Friday 26th February 2010 at 2:51 pm by SH (Editor)

Police in South Gloucestershire are warning householders to be on the alert after recovering two cars stolen during burglaries.

Two homes in Oldland Common and Longwell Green were burgled this week, and on each occasion the thieves used the householder’s own car to make off having found the keys.

Overnight Tuesday February 23 to Wednesday February 24 thieves broke into a house in Oldland Common and took a Nissan Micra plus a mobile phone, camera, keys and cash.

In the early hours of Wednesday a home in Longwell Green was broken into and the owner’s Renault Scenic used to remove electrical items including a television and a DVD player, plus a handbag and contents including cash and bank cards.

Both vehicles were recovered by police yesterday, Wednesday February 24 2010. The Micra was reported to police as blocking a driveway in Longwell Green. The Scenic, still containing some of the stolen property, was found by officers in Barrs Court. The handbag was found by a member of the public dumped in a nearby footpath.

Two women arrested after burglaries (Downend)

Posted on Monday 22nd February 2010 at 11:00 pm by SH (Editor)

South Gloucestershire police are appealing for people living in Downend to check their property after five burglaries in the area on Friday February 19 2010.

The break-ins all happened between 7.30 and 9.30pm within half a mile of Badminton Road, Downend.

DC Jason Hulbert said: “The thieves were simply letting themselves in through unlocked front doors even though the householders were in. Three residents challenged them and they gave various excuses and made off empty-handed.

“I’d like to thank the householders who called us about these incidents. We recovered a laptop, a handbag and bank cards which had been stolen from two other homes without the residents realising until we contacted them on Friday night.

“If anyone else was visited by two women in the Downend area on Friday night they should contact Staple Hill Police Station on 0845 456 7000.”

South Gloucestershire officers responding to a report of a householder disturbing two women in their home arrested two women nearby within five minutes of the call.

Two women aged 18 and 24, both from Yate, are due to appear before Northavon Magistrates today, Monday February 22 2010, charged with five counts of burglary.
