National success for Chipping Sodbury School and the Rotary Racer

Chipping Sodbury Rotary Racer

Four of Chipping Sodbury School’s Greenpower cars recently took part in the national final of Greenpower at Goodwood motor circuit. Their presence in the final had been earned at heats around the country.

Greenpower is a national electric car racing competition with over 200 schools, from across he UK, taking part. Greenpower involves students, with the help of sponsors, designing, building and racing their own electric powered cars at top race circuits. The event promotes engineering within the school community.

As a technology school, Chipping Sodbury entered four teams with five cars racing.

The first four of these cars R-PodS, took part in the race on 17th October, finishing in 2nd place on the day (a total of 50 miles completed in the 90 minute race) and in 1st place overall in the National Championship of Formula 24+, beating a team from Jaguar Landrover amongst others. The car was driven by Matthew Hunter. The other Chipping Sodbury cars all faired exceptionally well.
