Short cut leads to prosecution for HGV driver (Warmley)

A heavy commercial vehicle driver has been prosecuted for driving his lorry through a 7.5 tonne environmental weight limit in Warmley, South Gloucestershire.

The driver, Henry Michael James, 55, of Clevedon pleaded guilty when he appeared at North Avon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 26th April 2011.

James was fined £100 and ordered to pay costs of £250 plus a £15 victim surcharge for driving his 18 tonne truck along Mill Lane, Warmley on Tuesday 28th September 2010. A Trading Standards enforcement officer who was in the area at the time, saw James driving his vehicle through the weight restriction whilst en-route to his depot in North Common.

Chief Inspector of Weights & Measures Andy Watson, said: “This is yet another prosecution in recent months of drivers who have failed to abide weight restriction requirements.

“Regulatory signage in the area is clear to truck drivers and they should adhere to the restriction applicable to the weight of their vehicle.”

Three arrested after suspected cannabis seized (Warmley)

Police arrested three men after seizing suspected cannabis plants and dried plant matter from an address in Crown Road Industrial Estate, Warmley on Wednesday 5th January 2011.

Officers from the neighbourhood team searched the business premises at about 11am, recovering a dozen mature plants which if confirmed as cannabis would have an estimated street value of £9,000. Police also seized £1,500 cash.

Three men aged 26, 34 and 42 arrested in connection with the warrant were later released on police bail pending forensic tests and further enquiries.

Three stores fail under-age drink sales test

Three stores sold alcohol to under-18s in a test-purchase operation run by police and South Gloucestershire Trading Standards.

Two clearly under-age girls tried to buy alcohol in eight off licences and convenience stores in Downend, Kingswood, Mangotsfield and Warmley in the operation on Friday 5th November 2010.

The teenage volunteers were able to buy alcohol in two Kingswood stores and one in Downend. The workers who made the sale were given an £80 on-the-spot fine.

Appeal for witnesses after assault (Warmley)

Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a teenager was assaulted in Warmley.

The incident occurred on 7th May 2010 at around 10.30pm on Tower Road South.

The 17-year-old victim was standing at the bus stop when he was approached by three males who repeatedly punched him in the face.

They ran off when the Number 43 bus arrived.

The victim suffered bruising and cuts to his face.
