Woman dies after car plunges into pond

A woman has died following a single vehicle road traffic collision (RTC) on a stretch of rural road in South Gloucestershire.

Fire crews from Yate and Bath fire stations were called after reports that a car had left the road and finished partially submerged in a large pond in King Lane, Inglestone Common, Horton.

Firefighters recovered a female casualty, but despite efforts to revive her she was later pronounced dead. The deceased was believed to be in her 40s.

A Swift Water Rescue Team from Bath Fire Station also attended the incident and entered the pond in dry suits to make a full search for other casualties. No other casualties were found in during the search and no one else was injured in the incident.

Theft of taxi sign from car (Kingswood)

Police are advising people this New Year to check that any taxi they book or get into is properly licensed.

It follows the theft of a taxi sign from the top of a car parked on a driveway in Court Road, Kingswood on the evening of Sunday, December 27.

The sign has the number 748 on it. Police want people to look out for it, and to make sure that any taxi they book is displaying the correct identification in the vehicle.

Youth robbed and assaulted – appeal for witnesses (Kingswood)

Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault and robbery outside an off licence in New Cheltenham Road, Kingswood, South Gloucestershire on Monday, December 21.

At around 7.30pm a group of youths were throwing snowballs at each other and possibly at passing cars when a silver Audi TT drew up.

Most of the group of youths ran off. One 16-year-old left behind was punched in the face by the car driver. The car passenger then stole the boy’s bike and rode off on it in the direction of Church Road.

The first man threatened the boy again and then drove off.

He is described as black, around 5ft 7ins tall and of large build, aged about 30 with short Afro hair and wearing a grey jumper.

His passenger is also described as black, 6ft tall, skinny, with short dreadlocks. He was wearing a Russian-style hat and a dark blue puffa coat.

Appeal for witnesses after assault (Emersons Green)

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted in Emersons Green Retail Park.

The incident occurred at around 1.15pm on Monday 21st December 2009 when a group of youths were throwing snowballs at passing cars.

A 42-year-old man got out of his car to confront the youths after his vehicle was struck by a snowball.

The man was then punched in the face and kicked when he fell to the ground.

A 15-year-old male has been arrested and is currently on police bail pending further enquiries.
