Residents in the West of England can now apply for free bus travel throughout the whole month of their birthday under a new scheme designed to radically grow passenger numbers. All the main bus companies, including First and Stagecoach, have signed up to the first-of-its-kind initiative, and the region’s WESTlink bookable minibuses will also offer free travel.

Regional election victors assume office
Winners of the two regional elections held on 6th May 2021 have started work in their new roles. Dan Norris (Labour) is the new ‘metro mayor’ for the West of England, while Mark Shelford (Conservative) is the new Police and Crime Commissioner for Avon and Somerset.

The new Mayor of the West of England, Winterbourne resident Tim Bowles (Conservative), was officially sworn into office at the Engine Shed, Bristol on Monday 8th May. The event followed the mayoral election on Thursday 4th May in which Mr Bowles polled 27.3 percent of first preference votes, increasing to 35.7 percent after second preference choices were taken into consideration.
