Merlin Housing Society gains RSPCA award

Merlin Housing Society has gained the RSPCA’s bronze footprint award for its efforts to help residents be responsible pet owners.

The society was one of just 16 housing associations to receive the award and one of two south west-based organisations. It was awarded for its positive and clear policy on pet ownership.

Merlin’s pets policy, which was launched in 2008, sets out what pets residents can keep and in what circumstances, and the actions Merlin will take if pets cause a nuisance to neighbours.

HGV driver prosecuted for breaking bridge weight limit

South Gloucestershire Council

A driver has been prosecuted for driving a 24 tonne heavy commercial vehicle across an 18 tonne weight restricted bridge at Chipping Sodbury in South Gloucestershire.

The driver, Karen Davies of Lydney, Gloucestershire, pleaded guilty by post to North Avon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 21st September 2010 and was fined £175 and ordered to pay costs of £548.14 plus a £15 victim surcharge.

Davies was seen driving her vehicle across Sodbury Church Bridge on Tuesday 30th March 2010 by an enforcement officer of South Gloucestershire Council’s Trading Standards, who was in the area at the time.

Twelve-year-old boy robbed outside shop (Cadbury Heath)

Police are appealing for help identifying three teenagers involved in a robbery.

The robbery occurred outside Costcutters on Cadbury Heath Road, South Gloucestershire on Tuesday 21st September. At around 4pm a boy aged 12 was outside the shop when three teenagers demanded 50p. The victim handed over the money believing he would be hit if he didn’t do as they asked. He and four friends then started walking off down Cadbury Heath Road and into the nearby playing fields. They realised the suspects were following and the suspects then started to run after them. One of the suspects shouted out “Give me the wallet” but the victim and his friends were able to run off.

Three arrested for moped theft (Mangotsfield)

South Gloucestershire police are warning moped riders to lock up following the arrest of three young men for moped theft.

In the early hours of Wednesday 22nd September patrolling officers spotted a Piaggio NRG moped which had been stolen from Staple Hill. The bike was found abandoned near the cycle track at Mangotsfield and officers arrested three young men nearby.

Two 15-year-old boys from Bristol have been charged with taking a vehicle without consent and are due before Northavon Youth Court on Tuesday 19th October.

A 16-year-old man, also from Bristol, was released on police bail pending further enquiries.
