Weekend closure of A4174 Ring Road to remove contraflow on Bromley Heath Viaduct
The contraflow on the Bromley Heath Viaduct will be removed over the weekend beginning Friday 27th April.
South Gloucestershire Council (SGC) says that in order to carry out this work safely, it is necessary to undertake a full closure of a section of the A4174 Ring Road in both directions from the Wick Wick roundabout to the Hambrook traffic lights.
The closure will take effect from 8pm on Friday 27th April and will remain in place until 6am on Monday 30th April, when both carriageways over the viaduct will reopen.
Diversion routes will be signed and details of these will also be added to the Bromley Heath Viaduct webpage.
All traffic signal movements on the A4174 will be reverted to their original settings from before the viaduct work started and all Ring Road lane movements will be reinstated over the course of the weekend. This includes the 2+ lanes and all lane changes at the Hambrook lights.
Cllr Colin Hunt, SGC Cabinet member for transport, said:
“We’re pleased that this major engineering project is coming to an end and that the viaduct has been made fit for the future and now features a greatly improved shared footpath for cyclists and pedestrians.”
“To safely remove the contraflow we need to fully close the ring road over the weekend of 27 April and we apologise for any inconvenience caused during this closure. Whilst this section of the A4174 ring road is closed to traffic, we will also be taking the opportunity to carry out some additional maintenance work in the area, including work to the northern viaduct, drainage works, and resurfacing.”
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank residents and businesses for their patience and cooperation throughout this essential maintenance and improvement work.”
